Texas legend, James McMurtry stole the show on Sunday night at the War Eagle Supper Club. His three piece band performed for a packed house of both new and long time fans.
The audience was spread from the stage to the back wall, but everyone moved closer to the front of the stage with every song. The crowd sipped on beer bottles and nodded their heads to the band’s Stevie Ray Vaughn-like sound.
With James McMurtry on lead and vocals, Darren Hess on drums and Cornbread on bass, the three piece band performed original tunes such as “Just Us Kids,” and “Childish Things,” two of his most popular songs and album titles.
Fans ranging from Auburn college students to travelers from Texas occupied the dance floor and sang along to McMurtry’s renowned setlist of original songs.
McMurtry performs about 150 shows a year and has a frequent gig at the Continental Club in Austin, Texas. He performs both solo and with a band.
McMurtry lived up to his legendary status and kept everyone jamming throughout his show. His combination of Texas country and rock ‘n’ roll made an impressive genre that is like no other on the Auburn marquees.
