Kevin Flannagan and John Whitworth packed the Irish Bred Pub with their soulful, southern music Friday night.
It wasn’t their trucker hats and holey jeans that drew a crowd to Irish Bred Pub on Friday night. It was their soulful, southern music that packed the house for Kevin Flannagan and John Whitworth.
The duo performed for the first time together Friday night, luring in a crowd that thought they were old friends and bandmates.
Both musicians play in the Auburn/Opelika area on a regular basis, both alone and with other artists. Irish Bred took the chance in grouping these two musicians together, creating an impressive rock duo.
Flannagan and Whitworth took turns singing southern rock songs to an audience ready to dance and yell out song requests. The audience clapped along to “Folsem Prison Blues” as Whitworth sang lead and Flannagan blew away on the harmonica.
Whitworth, a Reckless Kelly fan, sported his favorite band’s shirt and played a few of the band’s songs.
On top of being excellent performers, both artists are skilled songwriters. Whitworth performed one of his bluesy originals entitled “Mama Hates You.”
Flannagan invited his fellow musician friend, Wendy Hamme, to sing with him on one of his originals.
Though it was their first time performing together, the guys impressed a big audience and hope to keep their southern rock duo alive!
Audience Reaction:

“It’s music I like to listen to. They have good originals, country, rock, and I enjoy when Kevin does his Irish songs.” - Wendy Hamme
