Rick Brantley rocked Eighth & Rail Saturday night with originals and covers.

Sometimes an entertainer comes along that makes you want to pop the top of a cold one, put your feet up, close your eyes and let all your problems drift away into the music.

Saturday night at Eighth & Rail I was introduced to such an artist.

Atlanta musician Rick Brantley showed off his array of talents by putting on a stellar performance.

He began the night with a solo piano performance featuring plenty of originals, including my favorite of the night “I Am Death.” He also played some great covers of Tom Waits’ “Blue Bandana” and the Boss, Bruce Springsteen’s “My City of Ruins.”

After a quick break Rick brought up the rest of his band and blew away the audience with energy that echoed Robert Plant and Mic Jagger.

Guitarist Chris Judd, drummer Brian Rickard and bassist Adam Lewis complimented Brantley’s sound, energy and talent showcasing everyone’s ability to rock.

Brantley has traveled from L.A. to the east coast and everywhere in between displaying his natural abilities as a songwriter and musician.

Brantley has a new CD coming out next month with Carnival Records titled “Prize Fight Love Soul Auctioneer.” It will feature all his newest original music including “She’s A Woman” and “Peace on Earth.” I got to hear both Saturday night and cannot wait until the release date.

The band was heading out to Atlanta after the show but plans on returning to the area soon.

These guys are someone to keep your ears out for. They have an uncanny ability of rocking out while soothing your blues.
