Thursday night the historic downtown Opelika bar Eighth & Rail welcomed back singing spouses, Drew and Ellie Holcomb.

The duo made there way down from Nashville to take the stage shortly after 10 p.m. and greet the eagerly waiting crowd.

Drew and Ellie were energetic from the start. They opened with their original, “I’m Comin’ Home,” and requested an audience sing-a-long for the “ba da da da’s.”

The two are even more pleasing to watch as they are to listen to. They send smiles to each other like they are just as in love with their songs as they are with each other.

The Nashville couple is currently on a tour for their new album, “Chasing Someday.”

Drew’s David Gray-style and Ellie’s sweet, southern vocals create the perfect blend for indie rock music.

Drew talked of his unrequited love for Ellie when they first met in Knoxville that inspired “Someday.” The two performed the song and Drew played the harmonica that made us all want to fall in love.

They are master songwriters and the only thing they do better than writing songs, is performing those songs. However, everyone loves a good cover song every now and then. The only cover of the night was Tom Petty’s “Learning to Fly.”

The duo gave a performance for the romantics. It was definitely a setting where you could fall in love. As they began “Hallelujah,” Ellie joined Drew to share his microphone. The two sang the song side by side into the same microphone to create the perfect picture of sweet romance.

Ellie and Drew were able to captivate us, bring us into their love story and then send us all home in course of an hour and a half.

As they prepared the audience for the last song, they were as enthusiastic as they were at the start of the show. They, of course, returned for an encore performance in which they approached the crowd with no mics, just pure music. They stood on the edge of the Eighth & Rail stage and shared their declaration of love to everyone. “Love is Magic” was intimate and refreshing and what love and music are all about.
