The American South is the birthplace of some of the best music in the world. Continuing in that tradition, Western North Carolina natives, Lazybirds, blend their exuberant love of classic American music with a contemporary sound, into some solid American roots music.

Formed as a quartet back in 1996, the mustachioed Lazybirds began playing together with a strong interest in roots revival. Since the early days the group has taken up the flag of the “forgotten styles of blues, jazz, country and ragtime” music; bits of Appalachian folk and country, tinged with the Mississippi blues and the soulful syncopation of New Orleans jazz and ragtime - in short, the quintessential American forms of musical art.

After becoming somewhat of a fixture in its corner of North Carolina, the band hit the road playing shows and festivals of all sizes. With the road came success, as the group has won over fans the world over, including accolades from Old Crow Medicine Show and the great Doc Watson himself.

The group has released a number of CD’s over the course of its career, with 2010’s “Broken Wing” being the band’s newest. Recorded just south of Birmingham in Bessemer, Ala., the new CD features some great cuts, including a handful of covers such as Dylan’s “Forever Young” and Doc Watson’s “Travelin’ Man.”

The Lazybirds are taking the stage at the Standard Deluxe in Waverly on Saturday, May 28. Make sure to stop by the band’s website at lazybirds.net to preview some tracks on the group’s “Lazy Player,” check out the band’s tour dates and watch some videos of live performances.
Comments:

It was a great show - all four and a half hours long!  It was a great night of tunes on a beautiful Alabama night under a clear sky of stars.  The Standard Deluxe in Waverly was the perfect venue and the eclectic crowd that filled the yard proved it.  The Lazybirds are a wonderful crowd-pleaser and I hope they come back soon!
