John and the Conners put on a great show at the Ale House Thursday night.

John and the Conners performed at the Olde Auburn Ale House Thursday night in downtown Auburn. Band members Chris Williams (lead vocals/guitar), Travis Widner (lead vocals/guitar/keyboard), Andy Cox (banjo/vocals), Jordan Walker (bass/vocals), and Tyler Wallace (drums), bring a beautiful blend of folk, rock, bluegrass and blues which they label “vanilla” style.

The boys kicked off the show with a lovely cover of The Beatles’ hit “Don’t Let Me Down.” They also did folk infused covers of the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and even a little R. Kelly. The show included plenty of the band’s originals as well. Songs like “Stuck in Reno” and “Hello Cotton” are as creatively written and structured as many chart toppers. This was something that made John and the Conners stand out from other local bands. Strong lyrics, smooth flowing guitar rhythms, and original beats showed how much talent this band truly possesses.

The crowd was not in full force, but the few audience members present obviously enjoyed what they heard. The mix of mellow and upbeat tunes created a perfect atmosphere for a show that was as entertaining as any, but definitely did not receive the attention it deserved.

This is a band that is obviously passionate about its music. Their love for what they do is shown by the emotion they put forth into each song they perform, even with the lack of an audience. These guys certainly do not seem to be in it for money or fame, although they are unquestionably talented enough to accomplish fame and fortune.

“We just want to have fun and rock n’ roll,” said lead vocalist Chris during a set break. “We love to just chill and do our thing,” he added.

With exceptional vocals and talented instrumentals, this is a band everyone in Auburn should go out to see. They bring an element to the local music scene that is fresh and entertaining to say the least. They can be seen regularly at the Olde Auburn Ale House and Irish Bred Pub.
