A typical Lawley set list includes a mix of eclectic covers and funny/serious originals.

If you haven’t seen heavy weight funny man Hunter Lawley playing around town on one of his many regional tour dates, then you may not know that Lawley is a burgeoning singer/songwriter from the Birmingham music scene. But not only is Lawley a skilled songwriter, he is also a damn funny man.
Sometimes Lawley plays with a full band, but Thursday night, at Sky Bar, Lawley performed solo, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar and a tip bucket. This doesn’t seem to bother Lawley who has a real knack for entertaining a crowd. A typical Lawley set list includes a mix of eclectic covers and funny/serious originals. For example, Thursday night R. Kelly’s “Ignition” was followed by Tom Petty’s “Last Dance with Mary Jane.” Lawley later lets into one of the tunes from his new album, “My Living Room,” an amusing yet serious yarn about things in and around his living room.
In between songs Lawley spews amusing little blurbs about himself and his music, but manages to easily pull off not only his comedy, but his moments of seriousness, always managing to keep things interesting.
Originally from Montevallo, Ala., Lawley recently released his “Living Room Sessions” - presumably recorded in his living room. The album contains his new fan favorite, a song called “Homemade Porno” - a touching country ode to the age old topic of vengeful love - with witty little lyrics like: “In a homemade porno/maybe now you’ll admit your wrong/and I wonder if you got the copy/ that I sent your mom.”
Lawley has a pretty lengthy list of regional tour dates scheduled in and around Auburn. Check out some of his tunes and tour dates at http://www.hunterlawley.com.
