Act of Congress put on a memorable show at the Sundilla Acoustic Concert Series Friday night.
Birmingham band Act of Congress brought its unique blend of bluegrass and pop to the Sundilla Acoustic Concert Series at the Auburn Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Friday night, bringing in around 100 listeners for the second time in the series' history.
Concert goers sipped on beer and drinks from their personal coolers and snacked on food provided by the organizers of the event. The temperature in the church was on the warm side, but listeners didn't seem to mind because Act of Congress delivered a show that proved worthy any discomfort.
Act of Congress blends banjo, guitar, dobro, stand-up bass and fiddle instrumentation with subtle harmonies, and seeing them perform live is a treat.
The band performed songs from its 2008 critically acclaimed album "Declaration," that ranged from the pop love single "In the Middle" to the funny "Five Minutes of Fame," that tells the story of an "American Idol" reject.
The band also performed several new songs from its follow-up album that they said should be released early next year, but some of the stand-out tunes were actually covers. The band gave a special touch to tunes that included Coldplay's "Clocks," Radiohead's "High and Dry," and the fiddle player gave Adele a run for her money with her version of "Rolling in the Deep."
The band got personal with the audience with a fun question and answer session and brought their instruments off the stage and to the floor with an intimate acapulco encore. Act of Congress performed two sets of tunes that had the audience on its feet with applause. Check out these guys next time they're in town. You won't regret it.

Comments:
A slight correction: Sundilla attendance has topped 100 several times. But never before, until the Dave Potts show on July 29 and the Act of Congress concert, had Sundilla topped 100 for consecutive concerts.
We’re going for three in a row on September 23!
