Week two SEC predictions
Cecil “Shakes” McFly For The Corner News published September 4, 2008 Photo by Cliff Williams | For The Corner NewsThe Tigers upset LA-Monroe last week, look for them to do the same to Southern Miss this week. College Football got off to a great start last weekend, with a few upsets to boot. The ACC showed how weak of a conference it has become with some major letdowns by Virginia Tech, NC State, and Clemson. Miss State and Tennesse were the only SEC teams to fall last week. We also learned Saturday night that Auburn’s new spread offense doesn’t always produce a lot of passing yards. With 324 yards on the ground, the Tigers really had no reason to put the ball in the air. Both quarterbacks, Kodi Burns and Chris Todd, looked out of sync at times with the rhythm of the offense. I think it will take a new rotation system to fix this problem. Burns was obviously the more productive quarterback of the two, but Todd showed a few glimpses of greatness as well. Defensively, Auburn looked stellar as usual.
Sept. 4
Sept. 6
LA-Monroe at Arkansas- After barely getting by the Western Illinois School of Ballet, the Pigs may find themselves in another fist fight against the War Hawks. Petrino somehow squeaks by again.
Miami at Florida- - The Gators should be good and warmed up after whipping up on Hawaii. The Hurricanes will keep it close for a little bit, but Randy Shannon’s team is not quite ready to compete with the big boys.
Central Michigan at Georgia- - UGA gets another warm-up before the showdown in Columbia. The Dawgs will roll.
Norfolk State at Kentucky - The Wildcats were impressive over Louisville. Rich Brooks looks to have this team going in the right direction. The Wildcats will get some easy games the next three weekends before traveling to Tuscaloosa.
Troy at LSU - The Trojans will keep it respectable, but LSU is just too much for Troy to handle.
Wake Forest at Ole Miss -This should be a good game. Both teams seem to be about on the same level. Since it is an ACC-SEC match-up, I`’ll go with the Rebels.
Southeastern Louisiana at Mississippi State - The Bulldogs were embarrassed on national television last weekend. Look for Croom to regroup his troops, and win big against a terrible, directional school.
Southern Miss at Auburn - Traditionally, the Golden Eagles have very competitive teams, but this one should not be much of a match for the Tigers. It may be close for a quarter or two, but the difference in talent will begin to show. Auburn will look to work out the kinks in the passing game, and improve overall as a team. Auburn should be primed and ready to open the SEC schedule after this one is over. Lester and Tate lead the way for the Tigers again.
