Week twelve SEC predictions
Cecil “Shakes” McFly For The Corner News published November 14, 2008 Photo by Cliff WilliamsThe offense finally showed some consistency last Saturday. Maybe they’ll do the same this week. Get ready to wake up early for “Amen Corner” this year. The “Oldest Rivalry in the South” has once again been shafted by the major networks, being televised at 11:30 a.m. by Raycom Sports, for the second time in three years. The Georgia Bulldogs come into this game with an 8-2 record, and a world of talent. The Bulldogs have had a good season other than their two disappointing, blowout losses. After being the preseason pick to win the BCS National Championship by many experts, the Bulldogs find themselves out of the picture in the BCS and the SEC. All that is on the line for UGA, is pride and the chance of going to a good bowl. The Auburn Tigers, on the other hand, find themselves in a position they have not seen since the late ‘90s. They are coming into this game with a disappointing 5-5 record. All of the hostility from this disappointing season could be put to bed with two wins against the Tigers’ biggest rivals to end the season. Offensively, Auburn showed signs of life last week, giving the Tigers hope for a strong finish. Kodi Burns seems more comfortable at quarterback with each start, running the ball well, and seems to be getting more accurate with his passes. On to the picks: Nov. 15 South Carolina at Florida - Spurrier and the Gamecocks look to ruin the Gators’ chances for a shot at the BCS. Florida is just too talented. Vanderbilt at Kentucky - This game should be the early Raycom telecast. This game will have the worst ratings of any televised game Saturday. Who Cares? Louisiana-Monroe at Ole Miss - The Rev. Nutt and his Rebels run wild! Troy at LSU - This could be a decent game if the Trojans can move the football. The Tiger offense is mediocre at best, and Jarrett Lee throws to the opposing team as much as his own. If Troy can keep it close until the fourth quarter, they could pull off a monumental upset! But I don’t think they can pull it off. Georgia at Auburn - In the 112th meeting between Auburn and Georgia, the Tigers will look to avenge their two-year losing streak to the Bulldogs. The Auburn defense will have its hands full trying to stop UGA’s Knowshon Moreno, Matthew Stafford, Mohamed Massaquoi and AJ Green. If the Tiger defense can keep Moreno in check and create some turnovers, Auburn may have a chance. Expect a hard fought game, with Auburn pulling out a thrilling win! |
