Tommy tuberville argues a no-call during the Auburn-Mississippi State game in Starkville, Miss., last Saturday.

Last Saturday, Auburn won their first SEC game of the season. The only problem was that it was one of the ugliest games of all time. The final score over Miss. St. was 3-2 … the same score as the Braves-Mets baseball game that night. It was not pretty, but a win is a win.

The highlight of the evening was the spectacular play of the Tiger defense. When Auburn needed a big stop, the defense would answer the call. The offense is a completely different story though.  Questionable play calling, penalties, taking sacks, not blocking, fumbling, bad reads, and not playing Kodi Burns, led to a poor showing by the offense. At times, everything looked completely out of sync. Auburn rarely moved the ball downfield without a mistake.

If the Tigers have any chance of winning this weekend, the offense will have to get it together … especially QB Chris Todd and Offensive Coordinator, Tony Franklin. The red zone offense must improve dramatically. With Brad Lester temporarily out of the lineup, the Tigers must rely on Ben Tate, Tristan Davis and Eric Smith to carry the load on the ground.

This Saturday’s game is the biggest game of the weekend, and I’m expecting a crazy atmosphere this weekend on the Plains. Onto the picks:

Sept. 20
Alabama at Arkansas - The overrated Crimson Tide travel to Hog Country. Petrino’s Piglets are’t very good … but neither is UAT. The Hogs pressure Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson into some major mistakes that cost the Tide dearly. Bama ain’t back!
Prediction: Arkansas 24, Bama 10

Florida at Tennessee -The Gators have too much for Fat Phil and his Vols. It may be close for a quarter or two, but the speed of the Gators, on both sides of the ball, will take over.
Prediction: Florida 28, Tennessee 17

Georgia at Arizona State - After getting a scare from South Carolina, the Bulldogs look to return to their dominating ways. It won’t be an easy task , but the Dawgs get it done.
Prediction: Georgia 31, Arizona 21

Vanderbilt at Ole Miss - The Rebels are just a little bit better than the Commodores. This one should be close, but Ole Miss squeaks out a win at home.
Prediction: Ole Miss 21, Vanderbilt 20

Mississippi State at Georgia Tech - This will be a defensive battle. Both teams are coming off close losses, so both desperately need to win this game. I just don’t think the Bulldogs can stop the GT option attack.
Prediction: Georgia Tech 14, Miss. St.10

Wofford at South Carolina - Not even worth commenting on.
Prediction: South Carolina 38, Wofford 3

LSU at Auburn - This game is HUGE! LSU has been dominant in their two lopsided victories, while Auburn has struggled offensively in their three wins. This will be the first true test for the Bayou Bengals. LSU has not seen, and probably will not see a defense as stubborn as Auburn’s. The biggest factor will be the production of the Auburn offense. If Auburn is unable to move the ball, and most importantly, score points, then LSU will win this game. It will be a close and low scoring game until the end, but the Auburn Tigers get the job done.
Prediction: Auburn 10, LSU 3
