Long before The Dirty Guv’nahs got the chance to go to Levon Helms’ Woodstock, N.Y., studio to record their second full length album, “Youth Is In Our Blood,” the six piece group sounded like The Band.

But, in actuality, the silver-throated soulful croon of frontman James Trimble, and the bluesy pop sound that the group has cultivated over the past three years, sounds nothing like the gravelly, whiskey-soaked Levon Helms. It is their approach to roots/rock music that sets them apart - from their Hammond organs, to their jangly, sing-along choruses, to their obvious love for their music. Perhaps this is why The Dirty Guv’nahs are quickly becoming one of the most popular groups touring the Southeast today.

Hailing from Knoxville, Tenn., The Dirty Guv’nahs have developed quite a following in their hometown, where they have been named “Knoxville’s Best Band” twice. While drawing comparisons to groups like the Rolling Stones and The Band, Trimble’s vocals sounds a lot more like Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. But their youthful approach to roots music has provided a much-needed breath of fresh air to a broad genre of music than can easily get stuck in the past.

In recent months, the guys have won accolades from many Southeastern music papers and have played Bonnaroo, Bele Chere in Asheville, N.C., and Levon Helm’s infamous Midnight Ramble. They will also soon play the Sailing Southern Ground Cruise with the Zac Brown Band from Tampa to Grand Cayman.

The Dirty Guv’nahs will be playing the War Eagle Supper Club Saturday, May 8. Check out their website, thedirtyguvnahs.com, for more info. and clips of tunes from their first LP.
