Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers “Mojo”
Standouts - “Jefferson Jericho Blues,” “I Should Have Known It,” “Good Enough”
As the first official Heartbreakers album since 2002’s “The Last DJ,” much was expected from “Mojo,” but Petty took his newest album in a different direction, delivering a largely electric blues based album. Although the initial idea to record the album live was scrapped, “Mojo” still has the feel of a live record. When all is said and done, the musicianship is superb and the ambience is fresh, but the bluesy riffs and extended jams fall a little flat. Solid effort, just don’t go looking for “American Girl” on this one.
