Sophomore quarterback Clint Moseley had a much better outing last week than his first start against LSU.
The Auburn Tigers (6-3, 4-2) have a bye on Saturday, Nov. 5, as they prepare to head to Sanford Stadium and take on the Georgia Bulldogs (6-2, 5-1) on Nov. 12.
The Tigers are taking a much needed rest after finishing a brutal October with a 3-2 record.
Auburn had a very strong showing against Ole Miss. The Tigers dropped 41 points on the Rebels, matching their combined total of points earned in the last three games.
The Tigers look for the momentum of the win to carry them against the Bulldogs.
After starting 0-2, UGA won its sixth game in a row defeating Florida 24-20 on Saturday. The Bulldogs’ defense held the Gators to 226 total yards, including negative 19 yards rushing.
Georgia’s momentum continues to grow as it takes on the New Mexico State Aggies Nov. 5 before hosting the Tigers.
If the Tigers can play as balanced and as disciplined against Georgia as they did against the Rebels, then Auburn has an excellent opportunity to give the Bulldogs their second SEC loss of the season.
Against Ole Miss, sophomore quarterback Clint Moseley had a much better outing than his first start against LSU. He threw his first career touchdown pass, a 13-yard strike to tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen early in the first quarter. On the day, Moseley went 12 for 15 passing for 160 yards and four touchdowns.
Two of Moseley’s touchdown passes were to Lutzenkirchen, who also had an impressive one-handed four yard touchdown catch with less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Running back Michael Dyer had 177 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries against the Rebels. Onterrio McCalebb added 61 yards on 15 carries for the Tigers.
Wide receiver Emory Blake returned to field against Ole Miss after missing the last three games with an ankle injury. Blake had five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown.
The Tigers were much improved in the way of penalties against Ole Miss. Auburn had four penalties for 20 yards against the Rebels after averaging over eight penalties a game in the three games prior.
Head coach Gene Chizik and the coaching staff have an extra week to gameplan for the Bulldogs and to rest players with some bumps and bruises.
Blake admitted that he was only 75 percent healthy against the Rebels and Lutzenkirchen was favoring his elbow towards the end of the game.
With two weeks to prepare, the Tigers should come out firing against the Bulldogs. Auburn’s win vs Ole Miss made the Tigers bowl eligible, but a strong finish to the season could earn them a late December or January bowl game.
