Auburn played tough defense Tuesday night, forcing 18 turnovers, but couldn’t keep up with Florida’s hot shooting.
The No. 11 Florida Gators beat the Auburn Tigers in Gainesville, Fla., 63-47, Tuesday night. The Gators broke the game open in the second half after Auburn took a 30-27 lead into the break.
Florida opened the second half with two three pointers in the first two minutes to go up 33-30. The Tigers took a 37-36 lead with 14:22 left behind a three pointer by junior guard Frankie Sullivan. The Gators responded with a 15-2 run over the next 7:31 to go up 51-39.
“They are a veteran seasoned team and you knew they were going to make a run,” said Auburn head coach Tony Barbee. “We didn't have the firepower.”
The Tigers shot just four from 15 from the field in the final 14:22. The Gators have the No. 1 offense in the SEC at 78.9 points per game and outscored the Tigers 36-17 in the second half.
“With as good as an explosive offensive team as Florida is, we kept them below their average, but we have to score,” Barbee said. “We had only 11 points in the first 18 minutes of the second half.”
