Rebecca Loebe, a former contestant on NBC’s “The Voice,” will perform at Eighth & Rail in Opelika on Thursday, Aug. 18.
Most young singer/songwriters aim for seriousness, but Atlanta, Ga., native Rebecca Loebe is busting all the stereotypes. The young songbird, who gained national attention this year with her appearance on NBC’s “The Voice,” is a fun-loving, tongue-in-cheek songwriter. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have anything to say.
Billing her music as “post-brontosaurus indie folk/crunk,” Loebe launched her career in 2004 after a stint at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After working for a time as a recording engineer, the songwriter decided to make her tunes her sole focus.
As an aspiring songwriter, she put in her time and paid her dues, even living out of her car for a while. But success found Loebe in 2011, when she auditioned for a role on NBC’s new show, “The Voice,” with a rousing rendition of Nirvana’s “Come as You Are.” The song skyrocketed to number seven on the iTunes Alternative download charts after airing. Since then, her career has taken off.
To date, Loebe has put out two albums and two EP’s of her original material. Her latest release, the “Bees and Zombies” EP, is a seven track B-side collection of remixes and cast-offs from her last album, “Mystery Prize.”
