Standouts - “Desperate Graves,” “Cotopaxi,” “Luciforms”

If you are a fan of The Mars Volta, then “Octahedron” is a little different from what you’re used to. The album is not as fast or loud as any of their previous albums, and this may work to their advantage, providing new listeners a fair chance at appreciating the work of the band. Cedric Bixler-Zavala still supplies the strangest of lyrics, and the guitar work from Omar Rodriguez-Lopez sets an even more peculiar mood. The eight track album (hence, the title) will be of some wealth and particular interest to fans of progressive rock.
