Americana artist Stoll Vaughan will be performing at the Strutting Duck Wednesday night.
Stoll Vaughan may be the best Americana artist you have never heard of.
Fortunately for Vaughan, plenty of popular artists have heard of him. Over the course of his career, Vaughan has toured with the likes of John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Def Leppard and Journey. But Vaughan is not just the luckiest guitarist in the known universe; he definitely earned those opening spots.
Vaughan is basically the embodiment of classic Americana music. His vocal delivery and storytelling ability are reminiscent of John Prine. Most of his songs sound like they came from J.J. Cale’s cutting room floor and his occasional horn usage is sure to remind anyone of Van Morrison.
The Morrison and Prine similarities are exceedingly apparent in Vaughan’s song “Invite me Over.” Backed by simple percussion and a cheerful horn section, Vaughan tells the object of his desire he will do anything for her, even if that means walking in the rain, saving a dog or laughing at her sister’s jokes. The sentiment of “Invite me Over,” is certainly well-worn in all genres of music, but Vaughan’s sincerity makes the song enjoyable for many listens. In fact, the only odd thing about “Invite me Over,” is the idea that anyone with Vaughan’s musical ability would have to make such grandiose gestures to win over a crush.

And if you can tear yourself away from Vaughan’s Web site for a few hours, he will play the Strutting Duck this Wednesday, Nov. 18.
