Fishizzle’s Fish N Skrimps recently opened on Opelika Road.
The newest restaurant in the area—and maybe the one with the most swag—is now open: Fishizzle’s Fish N Skrimps.
“I have had the name for several years,” said owner Louis Williams. “I thought Fishizzle would be a good play on Snoop Dogg's ‘fo shizzle,’ and so I thought Fishizzle would be pretty good.”
The restaurant/bar serves everything from catfish, tilapia and whiting to shrimp, wings and po’ boys.
With Christmas lights strung across the ceiling, plenty of TVs for football and funky music always playing in the background, Fishizzle’s definitely keeps true to its funky name.
“It's kind of a funky, soulful atmosphere,” Williams said. “There will always be R&B, light hip-hop or soul to provide a different, funkier atmosphere.”
So far, Williams said things are going well, with operating hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and an open-ended “11 a.m. until...” on Friday and Saturday, with the closing time dictated by the business inside.
“It’s going great,” Williams said. "All we did was put up a sign out front and pass out a handful of menus and each day has been busier than the previous day.”
Prices range anywhere from $1.99 up to $10.99 for a two-fish entree combo platter.
Williams has so far kept Fishizzle’s a family operation, but if business continues to climb, he’ll have to bring on more staff, but said it will keep that family feel.
“It's a fish fry joint—that never goes away,” Williams said. “It's going to be here and we're going to keep on rolling.”
