“It was a bad day for Auburn and a good day for LSU,” said Auburn head coach Nell Fortner. “We just could not find many baskets out there today, but credit LSU because they can get long and tough with that zone defense.”
Auburn shot just 30.9 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from three point range. LSU made 54 percent of their shots, including five for 10 from three.
LSU out rebounded Auburn by a 34-20 margin, and blew out Auburn despite committing 24 turnovers.
“We missed some great opportunities in the first half and the burden got heavy with LSU shooting the ball so well," said Fortner. "LSU can get really long on you when they want and that was difficult for us today."
After heading into halftime down 33-26, Auburn cut the LSU lead to five early in the second half. But a 6:53 scoreless stretch in the second half allowed LSU to break the game open.
Senior forward LaSondra Barrett led the way for LSU with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Barrett shot three for five from the field, one for two from three and made all six of her free-throw attempts.
Auburn plays its final two games of the season in Auburn Arena. The Tigers face Alabama on Feb. 23, tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
