Standouts - “Nothing But the Whole Wide World,” “Lend a Hand,” “Holy Rollers for Love”

Jakob Dylan, like his old man, is a singer/songwriter of the highest order. On “Women and Country,” his follow-up to the acclaimed “Seeing Things,” Dylan brought in master producer T Bone Burnett; together the two whittled out 11 solid tracks of folksy, stripped down tunes based on the fairly straightforward topic of women and country. Like the album’s cover, the songs are set against a sparse backdrop that provides much of the drama. The album also features nuanced vocals by Neko Case and Kelly Hogan.
