A local resident plays golf at USA Mini Golf.
When Curtis Whatley moved his new wife from Orlando, Fla., to Opelika, she inspired him to create a new business.
“She’s originally from Orlando, Fla., where mini golf facilities are common,” Whatley said. “When I brought her home to Opelika, she saw that we didn’t have a course. She has been the visionary from the beginning.”
Whatley and his brothers constructed USA Mini Golf from the ground up, as Jenna created the décor for the indoor 18-hole course. The theme of the course is “Road Trip Across America,” each hole represents a different national location of interest, ranging from the Grand Canyon to the Florida Everglades.
The golf course opened on May 16th, and is now open from 5 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays, and from 3 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It is located in the yellow and blue USA Town Center off I-85 exit 62. Prices are $5.50 for adults and $3.50 for kids.
“Our take on mini golf is that it’s less stressful than a movie, but more fun for the youngsters than a walk in the park,” said Daniel Solid, who handles marketing for the facility. “Besides, with the economy tightening the pocketbook, folks are looking for a more affordable option.”
Also, the winner of each completed five-person scorecard can redeem a free round of play starting the next day of operation.
The course is switched over to a black light course later in the night.
“We think we are adding value to our community by offering an activity that all ages can come together to enjoy,” said Mark Drye, the facility manager.
USA Mini Golf also offers spaces for parties. For more information, call 334.439.4914 or visit usaminigolf.com.
