The Tavern offers $1 pitchers everyday.

Attention bargain beer shoppers, there’s a new bar in town that boasts some of the cheapest drink specials you can find in Auburn. The Tavern, located on 1310 Opelika Road in the former Botcher’s and Lumberyard, opened before Christmas and is quickly gaining a reputation as a place to drink on a dime.

Pitchers are $1 everyday and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. draft beers are a penny with a $5 cover. And thanks to a widely untapped law, patrons can sip their cheap beers until the wee hours of the morning.

“We only serve beer and wine, but that affords us to be able to stay open around the clock if we want to,” explained Tavern manager Willie Hodnette.

Though it’ s open until 5 a.m. five days a week, the Tavern has been popular with the early crowd so far.

“Since we’re open so early people have mostly been coming to pregame for downtown,” Hodnette said.

“You can drink cheaper here than you can at home,” said bartender Rachel Johnson.

The Tavern is located at 1310 Opelika Road near Mike’s Merchandise. Hours are from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 pm to 2 a.m. on Saturday.
