SummerNight will feature music, arts and crafts, children’s activities and more.
The Auburn Arts Association, City of Auburn, Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center and Auburn Downtown Merchants Association will host the 5th Annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk this Friday, June 17, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The event will feature music, arts and more entertainment free of charge to the community.
College Street from Thach Avenue to Tichenor Avenue and Magnolia Avenue from Wright Street to Gay Street will be closed for the event and downtown businesses will stay open for the event.
Local bands performing will include claissic rock/blues band Spoonful James, Pangea Jam, and acoustic musician John Peterson. Spoken Word Poetry by Kolayah Kee-Van Wilson will also be featured.
Entertainment will also be provided for the kids including inflatables, arts and crafts and a children’s parade with Aubie. According to Auburn Downtown Merchants member, and owner of Stamp, Eric Stamp, the children’s parade is one of the highlights of the night.
“The parade is pretty epic,” Stamp said. “The kids make vests and crazy hats and other stuff out of newspaper and glitter for the first hour of the event and then they have the parade. It's a lot of fun.”
Another aspect of the event that Stamp said people seemed to enjoy last year is Little Italy Pizzeria does pizza dough demonstrations that the audience can participate in.
“They’re going to have twice the dough this year,” Stamp said.
Additional parking for the event is available at Regions Bank, First Baptist Church of Auburn and Auburn United Methodist Church.
SummerNight is open to all ages. Rain date is Saturday, June 18, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
