Patterson Hood, of the band Drive-By Truckers, will perform solo material at Standard Deluxe in Waverly on Saturday, July 2.
As a member of the perennial kings of all things Southern and rock, Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers can do no wrong in the adoring eyes of his fans.
I mean, this is the guy who literally wrote the “Southern Rock Opera.”
But despite his tireless road schedule and his band’s constant output of new material, Hood has still found time to work on his solo career.
It seems fair to say that most everyone around Auburn is either vaguely to extremely familiar with the Trucker’s everexpanding catalogue of hard Southern rock.
But fewer have heard much of Hood’s solo material, including his newest – and second to date – 2009’s “Murdering Oscar (and Other Love Songs),” an album that
actually predates the Drive-By Truckers.
In 1994, Hood, who had recently moved to Athens, Ga., recorded the skeleton of “Murdering Oscar” in his house on a boombox and distributed the songs as tapes. Over the years, the solo album was pieced together with friends and family, which includes much of the current DBT lineup, local Athens favorite Don Chambers, members of Centromatic and even Hood’s father, David Hood of the famed Muscle Shoals Swampers.
Currently, Hood is on tour with the Truckers promoting the band’s 2011 release, “Go-Go Boots,” but is making a stop near Auburn for a solo show with Doc Dailey and Billy Gant.
Patterson Hood will be playing Standard Deluxe in Waverly on Saturday, July 2. Tickets are $20 day of and $15 in advance and are available at cork-industries.com or at the Guitar Shoppe in Auburn.
