Denby was also named the SEC Female Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The postseason honors continue to come in for Auburn swimmer Kara Denby as she was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

It marks the second time in her career to earn Academic All-America honors as she was named to the team as a sophomore in 2006.

Denby, a zoology major on a pre-Med path, holds a near-perfect 3.93 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) following her senior season. She earned seven All-America honors at the 2008 NCAA Championships, giving her 24 over the course of her career — a mark that ranks her fourth all-time at Auburn.

During the 2008 NCAA Championships, she finished seventh in the 50 freestyle, fourth in the 100 free and ninth in the 100 breast while swimming on four top-five relay teams. She also won three titles at the 2008 SEC Championships, winning the 100 breaststroke while swimming on the winning 400 freestyle and medley relay teams.

Following the NCAA Championships, Denby competed on the U.S. National Team at the 2008 FINA World Short Course Championships where she swam on the 400m medley relay team that set a World record in the event.

Denby also ranks among the fastest all-time at Auburn as she holds the school record in the 100 freestyle (47.92) and is second all-time in the 50 free (22.06) and 100 breast (59.99).

For her efforts in the classroom, Denby was also named the SEC Female Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row, was awarded one of the NCAA $7,500 Postgraduate Scholarships and was voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV
First Team.

By making the Academic All-America team, it marks the sixth time in the last seven years for Auburn swimming and diving to get at least one athlete on the team. Denby is also the third repeat honoree, following Cesar Garcia (2002, 2003, 2004) and Matt Busbee (1999, 2000).
