Conflicting reports about Mike Dyer’s Auburn future emerged Wednesday.
Mike Dyer -- depending on who you read -- is or is not seeking a transfer to Arkansas State.
Auburn running back Mike Dyer's imminent transfer to Arkansas State to reuinite with former Tigers offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has been rumored for some time now, almost from the moment he was suspended indefinitely from the team Dec. 11 and Malzahn took the Arkansas State job two days later.
Wednesday, those rumors picked up steam.
NationalFootballAuthority.com reported that Dyer was filing paperwork at Arkansas State on Wednesday, then AuburnUndercover.com also reported Dyer was planning to join Malzahn in Jonesboro, Ark.
AuburnUndercover reported Dyer is seeking a release from his Auburn scholarship, but had not received one as of Wednesday.
But the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette quoted a source close to Dyer saying the running back had not filed paperwork at Arkansas State.
“I’m telling you, he has not filed paperwork to do anything," the source told the Democrat-Gazette. "If that happens, trust me, I’m sitting beside him.”
The source told the Democrat-Gazette that Dyer is waiting to meet with Tigers head coach Gene Chizik, and Arkansas State could be a destination depending on what happens in the meeting.
Dyer has until next Friday to be admitted at Arkansas State for the spring semester. Auburn's semester starts Monday.
An Auburn spokesman said he was not aware of any change in Dyer's status, and attempts to reach the Arkansas State registrar's office and a member of the Auburn coaching staff by the Opelika-Auburn News were not returned.
Dyer was a first-team All-SEC selection this season, running for 1,242 yards and 10 scores for the 8-5 Tigers.
