Several blockbuster-worthy movies are set to hit theatres this year and The Corner has put together a preview that includes some of the most anticipated films of 2012.
"The Hunger Games"

Release date: March 23
Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, "The Hunger Games" is the movie adaptation of the best selling book trilogy set in the future in which a young teenager is forced to compete with 23 others in the "hunger games," a televised fight to the death.
Think: This will fill the hole left by "Harry Potter."
"The Five Year Engagement"

Release date: April 27
Emily Blunt and Jason Segel play an engaged couple who, after continually delaying their wedding date, wonder if they should even get married.
Think: It's from the producer of "Bridesmaids" and stars Jason Segel ... be prepared to laugh out loud.
"The Avengers"

Release date: May 4
Directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johannsson, a villain treatens Earth and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury assembles a team of powerful heroes to fight back.
Think: The epitome of super hero movies.
"The Dark Knight Rises"

Release date: July 20
Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Gary Oldman star in the third and final movie in the popular series. It's eight years later and Gotham City is threatened by terrorist leader Bane.
Think: Does it really get any better than "The Dark Knight?"
"Looper"

Release date: Sept. 28
Joseph-Gordon Levitt plays a hitman who works for a time-traveling mob and recognizes one of his targets as an older version of himself, played by Bruce Willis.
Think: Hopefull the next sci-fi thriller as good as "Inception."
"Skyfall"

Release date: Nov. 9
The next release in the James Bond series starring Daniel Craig in which M16 comes under attack and Bond vows to protect his boss M and hunt down the treat.
Think: Craig as James Bond never gets old.
"Les Miserables"

Release date: Dec. 7
Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Helena Bonham-Carter star in this adaptation of the music based on the novel set in 19th-century France, in which a paroled prisoner named Jean Valjean seeks redemption.
Think: It's already gaining hype.
"The Great Gatsby"

Release date: Dec. 25
Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan star in this latest film adaptation of the novel that tells the story of midwesterner Nick Carraway who is lured into the world of a wealthy man, Jay Gatsby, that leads to tragedy.
Think: DiCaprio and Maguire together should make for an interesting take on the story.
"Django Unchained"

Release date: Dec. 25
Directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sacha Baron Cohen, the movie follows a former slave who attempts to rescue his wife from a Mississippi plantation.
Think: Expect the usual brilliant craziness Tarantino provides with more A-list actors that include Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and Jamie Foxx.
"Lincoln"

Release date: December
Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tommy Lee Jones, this is the story of President Abraham Lincoln as he leads the North during the Civil War.
Think: If anyone can pull this off it's Daniel Day-Lewis and Steven Spielberg.
