The Roots, hip-hop’s quintessential rap band, returns with their ninth studio album “How I Got Over,” a rather subdued, thought-provoking CD. The album title is taken from Mahalia Jackson’s song by the same name and the album assumes the same introspective tone the song has. If you’re looking for an instant party this isn’t the disc, but if you enjoy vivid imagery, high-brow lyrics and excellent music production, then this is a must-have.
