Comic book aficionados and lovers of superhero movies rejoice! Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man” is just that good!
The relevant tone of “Iron Man” calls into question the very nature and direction of the vastly popular superhero genre, and as of late, bumped a few favorites off the top 10 list of fans and critics alike.
Adapted from Stan Lee’s graphic novellas of yore, “Iron Man” is the latest jewel from the pages of Marvel to be given a big budget Hollywood makeover.
Robert Downey Jr. rightfully plays the man under the metal cladding, Tony Stark, a silver-tongued playboy and genius heir to a multi-billion dollar weapons industry. After a botched abduction by the scourge of our generation, a nameless yet ambitious terrorist group, Stark returns to the United States with a new direction for his ill-fated business. This ambitious vision conflicts with what is currently a real life issue in international politics. Should our country commit billions in finances and resources to the creation of weapons that do not improve the overall well-being of man and are ultimately proliferated among organizations considered our enemies?
This query places Stark at odds and turns him into a true anti-hero. What then continues for the duration of the film is pure hilarity, ample explosions, a few tips of the hat, and an absolute masterpiece from a die-hard fan turned director that only adds credibility to the blockbuster genre.
