Andy Scott’s music has been featured in television and movies like “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
Whether you’re aware of it or not, you know Andy Scott’s music. He scored commercial success under the moniker “Goat” with a feel-good hit called “Great Life,” which, after scoring at radio, was picked up by Kia for one of their television ads.
You’ve heard his music in movies, like “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Super Cop,” and many others. You’ve heard his music on television, on “CSI,” “Aliens In America,” “Wildfire” and others. You may have heard his previous albums “Twisted Heart” and “All of My Friends,” which were both featured on 99.9 The Rock back when that station was winning awards for their programming.
What you haven’t experienced is the cool jazz/blues stylings of “Don’t Tempt Fate,” the latest offering from the talented pianist/composer/singer. Featuring the amazing Madeleine Peyroux lending her unique and beautiful voice, as well as her ukelele and guitar prowess to the recording, Scott has produced a wonderful record of jazz and blues-inspired pop music.
From the opening strains of the title cut, which features Peyroux’s signature vocals prominently, the album catches a groove that moves you; then the lyrics take you to the next level. Scott’s lyrical imagery has a way of capturing things and concepts that we all think about to which we can all relate in some way, shape, or form.
Up-tempo favorites like “Rainy Day” and “Out of the Blue” are intertwined with sentimental smoothies like “Lost But Not Forgotten.” The music obviously comes from deep inside the artist, underscored by “Fishin’,” a rollicking stomper that memorializes his fly-fishing days with his father, baseball great Al Rosen. The song “Who Doesn’t Call” has been made into an amusing animated video featuring Scott singing and playing in the studio, available to watch on YouTube.
“Don’t Tempt Fate” is an album that listens well from beginning to end, and will tempt you to listen over and over again.
