After the mixed reviews of 2003’s “Saint Anger” and the release of the band documentary, “Some Kind of Monster,” it began to seem as if all of Metallica’s fans were leaving town on the same bus. But after a few years of regrouping and rehab, “Death Magnetic” may just be the wake up call that the group and its fans needed. Produced by super-producer Ricker Rubin and featuring all those solos that were missing from “St. Anger,” it may not be “…And Justice for All,” but it’s as close as they’ve come in a long time.
