The fourth studio album by John Mayer is a 45-minute roller coaster of emotional ballads and slick and smooth guitar work. Mayer spends most of the album making the oft made comparison to love as a battlefield, which begins to sound a little redundant. As a whole, the album doesn’t hold a candle to Mayer’s previous work, but there certainly are moments that are reminiscent of some of his better, earlier work. The iTunes store contains a bonus downloadable cover of Bruce Springsteen’s song, “I’m On Fire,” which is definitely worth checking out.
