Standouts - “21st Century Breakdown,”“East Jesus Nowhere,” “21 Guns”

If 2004’s “American Idiot” was Green Day’s breakout record, “21st Century Breakdown” is their coming of age album. All songs on the album are based loosely around the concept of the trials and tribulations of a young couple living in the early 21st century. Produced by Butch Vig, the ‘90s superstar producer of such albums as Nirvana’s “Nevermind,” “Breakdown” has a less handled feel than that of, “American Idiot,” though in many ways it feels as if it is a continuation of some similar ideas. Still, the hooks are just as big and enjoyable as they were with “Idiot.”
