Singer/songwriter Barbara Keith started out at the Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village, following in the footsteps of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Cosby and many others who began their career in the legendary coffee house. It wasn’t long before labels came courting, and her first album on Warner Brothers was produced by Little Feat’s Lowell George.

Keith’s husband, Doug Tibbles, was renowned as a writer for television, with credits ranging from “The Munsters” and “Bewitched” to “Andy Griffith” and “My Three Sons.” Disillusioned with the music industry and show business in general, the couple gave up their contracts and moved to a secluded life in western Massachusetts, where they had a son, who began learning the bass at age 11 while Tibbles learned to play drums.

The family began producing the occasional recording, and eventually playing a show here and there. When playing a gig at the Troubadour in L.A., best-selling author Elmore Leonard walked in and was inspired by the band to write the sequel to his classic “Get Shorty” and became the model for Chili Palmer’s next adventure, “Be Cool.” He included their lyrics in the book and dedicated it to them.

Now the family trio releases their ninth album, “A Rude Awakening.” The Stone Coyotes are a band who, if you are one who loves rock ‘n’ roll, will rock your world.

Straightforward and unpretentious, the band consistently rips great original songs and takes no prisoners. Bass, guitar, drums, and the occasional keyboard playing anthems, ballads and rockers, Stone Coyotes may be the most honest rock band on the planet.
