“Sweeney Todd” was just released on DVD and is definitely worth renting.

The Depp/Burton duo has struck gold once again, as if anyone had a doubt. Tim Burton’s new-to-DVD movie, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” is brilliant on so many levels. The actors are great, the writing is terrific, and the music is chilling. Overall, this is the best movie I’ve seen so far this year.

Benjamin Barker (Johnny Depp) is a barber in London with a beautiful wife and child. Suddenly, Barker’s world falls apart as he is sent to prison unjustly by a judge longing to have Barker’s wife. After release, Barker returns to Fleet Street to learn about the fate of his wife and daughter by Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter).

Fueled by anger and vowing for revenge, Sweeney Todd takes care of his enemies with a quick shave.

The cinematography in the movie is beautifully done, and the music matched perfectly, moving the story along. The acting is incredible. Even Sacha Baron Cohen (“Borat”) gave a nice performance.

Overall, “Sweeney Todd” gets an ‘A’ in my book. Definitely go rent this one.
