Fools & Horses’ new album “I Am The Ghost” is a melodic album of hot rock.
Take the quality songwriting of The Beatles, add in the bombastic antics and sheer rock ‘n’ roll of AC/DC, color it with the modern rock sound of U2, and you’ve got Fools & Horses.
Fools & Horses’ new album “I Am The Ghost” is a melodic album of hot rock that will appeal to modern rockers as well as old-school heads. The band hails from Baltimore, and has racked up a bunch of awards and notices over their four-album career, including Music Monthly’s “Best Modern Rock Band” two years in a row, and many top nominations in the Washington Area Music Association’s annual awards ceremony.
The album opens with a strong rocker called “Anna Was The Enemy,” and then immediately shifts into high gear with the first single from the record, “Selfish,” a real stomper. The album doesn’t let up, with three more catchy, melodic rockers “Take My Life,” “Wide Eyed Wonder,” and “Redwings” following the single. “Finally Out Of My Mind” is a mid-tempo ballad that leads into a highlight of the album, “...That Strung Up The Rebel,” a powerful tune with a memorable melody and a build-up to a climax that leaves you wanting to hear it again.
The album is not without imperfections, at times the band gets mired in the “new rock” sound, but even on these songs, their songwriting makes up for the production taking over and attempting to characterize their sound. All in all, Fools & Horses are a band to watch, and “I Am A Ghost” reinforces that line of thinking.
