Many students are probably wondering what they are going to do for Valentine's Day in Auburn as the special day quickly approaches. Romantic dates full of chocolates and roses may be on the minds of some students, while others are eager to see what the Auburn nightlife will bring.
Valentine’s Day can be a day full or acts of love for some and a reminder of the single life for others.
Some look at it from a negative aspect. “I am considering boycotting the entire month of February. I don't like going into Target or Wal-Mart and seeing all of the bears, chocolates and cards,” said Jessica Norwood, Auburn University student.
Yet others are looking forward to the romantic holiday. Some girls even fantasize about what they would want their ideal Valentine’s Day to be like and hopefully Auburn can fulfill that for them.
“My ideal date would be doing anything that was a surprise to me. However, if I had to choose I would want it to be an all day event. A walk in the park with a Toomer’s Lemonade or maybe an afternoon movie followed by a home cooked candle light dinner since all the restaurants would be packed and not as personal for Valentine’s Day,” said Whitney Ryan, Auburn University student.
Then again, if it is a romantic candle lit dinner that couples are looking for, there is at least one restaurant in Auburn that can provide that.
“We are opening a new back dining room area on Valentine’s Day that will have small, two person tables for couples,” said Greg Kebe, manager for Amsterdam Cafe. Amsterdam Cafe will also be offering specialty wines and a menu geared towards couples for Valentine’s Day.
Maybe you and your significant other are in the mood for sushi? In that case, Fuji Sushi Bar will be decorated in a unique Valentine’s Day setting and is offering specials as well.
“We have a love boat for two people with a california roll, fried shrimp, chicken, beef and vegetables. It’s really worth it,” said Richard Du, manager of Fuji Sushi Bar.
After you finish nibbling on your sushi or sipping the specialty wines at Amsterdam Café, you may be in the mood for a movie. Carmike Cinemas is just off of Opelika Road in Auburn and across the street from the mall. You might want to check out “My Bloody Valentine” in 3-D or if the lady gets to choose, the romantic comedy “Bride Wars” is also playing.
Yet Valentine’s Day does not have to be just for couples, some singles like to celebrate it as well.
“You always have single friends to celebrate with if you don’t have a date. My friends and I will probably go downtown and find something to do,” said Heather Henricks, student at Southern Union.
“Since I am single, I don’t mind spending Valentine’s Day with some family members this year. My sister and I may hang out and get dinner,” said Jessica Norwood, Auburn University student.
If there weather stays warm like it has been lately, Auburn also has a number of parks for couples who may want to picnic. There are plenty of things to do whether you would like to be inside or outside.
So now that Auburn has been proven to be a lovely place to be living on Valentine’s Day, it may be a good idea to start planning a nice, romantic date for your Auburn valentine.
