Chi Omega is preparing to host its annual “Walk for a Wish.” It will be held on Nov. 8th at 2:30 p.m. at Town Creek Park on South Gay Street.

Each fall Chi O, a sorority at Auburn University, plans a walk to benefit the “Make a Wish Foundation” of Alabama. The money raised goes towards granting wishes to children who live in Alabama and have been diagnosed with life threatening medical conditions.

Last year Chi O raised more than $50,000 to donate to the “Make a Wish Foundation.” This year their goal is to exceed that amount.

Morgan Cadrette, a senior Chi O at Auburn University, has participated in the walk for the past four years and is passionate about the philanthropy.

“The ‘Walk for a Wish’ is my favorite event we host in the fall,” Cadrette said. “I love it because we get to hang out with friends all day, be active and it all goes towards helping a good cause. It is always so much fun.”

There will be live music, refreshments and door prizes offered at the walk. Also, anyone that attends the event and is a member of a sorority or fraternity at Auburn will be awarded spirit points.

Anyone can participate in the walk. Each year the walk is attended by community members and Auburn students. Each member of Chi Omega will also be walking for the cause. The walk will be one mile around the park.

“The walk gives us a chance to feel like we are actually making a difference in someone’s life and it really means a lot to me to be able to have that impact on someone,” Cadrette said.

In addition to the walk the sorority hosted a restaurant week. This took place last week and gave anyone in the community a chance eat at designated restaurants in the Auburn area to help the cause. The restaurants donated a percentage of the proceeds to the foundation.

Sign up for “Walk for a Wish” by contacting a current member of Chi O or by registering on the day of the walk. Registration is $10 a person and a T-shirt is included. If you plan to register on the day of the walk registration will start at 2 p.m. and T-shirts will be given out on a first come first serve basis.
