The Auburn University Delta Delta Delta sorority will be hosting the first Delta House of Pancakes (DHOP) to benefit “Camp Smile-A-Mile” on Friday, Nov. 6 , from 11 p.m. until 2 a.m.
The event will be held on the Sigma Nu fraternity lawn. Meghan Phillips, Tri Delta philanthropy chair, is working tirelessly to make sure this event is a success.
“College students tend to be night owls, so we thought it would be a fun idea to have an event held late at night,” said Phillips. “An added bonus is that you can eat as many pancakes as you want for only a few dollars. What college student wouldn’t love that?”
The event will begin at 11 p.m with Tri Deltas cooking and serving pancakes and drinks. Live music will also be provided by Chase Brown, lead singer of Old Soul.
Phillips is in charge of the event, but insists several people have been instrumental in the planning process.
“Bo Bledsoe, Sigma Nu’s president, has been so helpful. He is allowing us to use their front lawn to set up tables and chairs and even their kitchen to cook,” she said.
Phillips also adds that many Tri Delta parents have been generous in sponsoring and helping fund the event. She says their support has been encouraging and uplifting to members of the sorority.
Tri Delta learned of DHOP from other chapters around the nation.
“I have friends at several Florida universities that are Tri Deltas,” said Phillips. “They say this particular event is fun and always a big hit among students.”
Tri Deltas will be cooking the pancakes for their peers using ingredients purchased from Sam’s Club. Students are the target audience, but others are welcome to attend.
“We would love to see members of the community out there,” Phillips said. “The more the merrier. There will be plenty of pancakes to go around.”

This is not the only way this sorority supports “Camp Smile-A-Mile.” Five Guys Burgers and Fries and Chick-fil-A on Magnolia Avenue have agreed to host spirit nights. At spirit night, these restaurants will donate proceeds earned to Camp Smile-A-Mile. By eating at these restaurants on the correct nights and signing the back of your receipt you will be helping Tri Delta support this camp.
“Eat dinner at Five Guys on Nov. 3 and Chick-fil-A on Nov. 4 to help us continue to raise money. Some Tri Deltas will even be calling out orders at Five Guys,” Phillips said.
Phillips and many other Tri Delta members feel passionately about the benefits of Camp Smile-A-Mile. Children diagnosed with cancer can visit the camp for a chance to escape from their illness. Doctors and nurses are on site for administering medication or care in emergency situations if needed. Family and sibling counseling sessions are also available during the week.
“’Camp Smile-A-Mile’ is special to me because children are special to me,” she said. “I have had a blessed and fortunate life, and I want other children to be able to experience normal childhood things like I did. Tri Delta has given me, and thousands of other girls, the opportunity to help out.”
Help Phillips support this cause by purchasing tickets from any Tri Delta or at the door of the Sigma Nu house on Nov. 6. Tickets are $3 before the event and $5 at the door.
