This year not only are the flowers in bloom, but also the artworks.

The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art will be hosting a special
exhibition called "Art in Bloom" beginning in April.

The exhibition will feature innovative floral designs and arrangements
from designers across the southeast.

All arrangements and designs will draw their inspiration from artwork
within the galleries of the museum.

In addition to the exhibition, there will be three separate events
featuring a guest speaker for each. Each speaker will lecture on a topic
of his or her specialty.

On Friday, April 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Elaine Jo will speak and
demonstrate the art of Ikebana. Ikebana is the ancient art of Japanese
floral arrangements

Some of Jo's works have been displayed at the Coca Cola headquarters in
Atlanta

An Asian inspired lunch will follow the demonstration. Seats are $40 a
person.

Later that evening, starting at 6 p.m., Dr. Tommy Chase will lecture on
"Aesthetics of Asian Art, Bonsai and Suiseki".

Chase has been studying the art of bonsai for more than 35 years. His
own personal collection of bonsai will be on display at the museum. Some
of the bonsai are more than 40 years old.

The bonsai will be on display during the Asian inspired cocktail
reception following the lecture. Attendance will cost $75 per person and
includes Asian inspired cuisine, lecture and the cocktail reception
after.

On Saturday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dorothy McDaniel will give
a floral design demonstration title "Simply Beautiful Flower, But Oh So
Simple to Design".

McDaniel has been designing floral arrangements for more than 29 years
and has authored her own book on floral designs.

Her lecture will be followed by a lunch in the Grand Gallery of the
museum. Attendance is $75 per person.

"We have a really exciting exhibition coming up next week," Colleen
Bourdeau, the events manager at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine
Art. "Art in Bloom will be happening at the Museum."

"Art in Bloom is really exciting," said Bourdeau. "We will have floral
designers who take inspiration from our works of art."

The exhibition is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors. It will be on
display during normal museum hours.

The exhibition gives residents a chance to see some of the southeast's
best floral artists in action and in the their element.
