Giant slides, a bounce house, games, toys and more all for the kids of Project Uplift. The fourth annual "Ballin' with the Ballers" event, hosted by the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, will be Thursday from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house.

Project Uplift is a program that helps underprivileged children in Lee County by pairing them with a volunteer that plans activities and outings with the child. The program is for children ages 5 to 12 and helps develop constructive, happy lives.

"Ballin' with the Ballers" gives the volunteers of Project Uplift somewhere to bring the kids that day and spend a free afternoon. The event got its name because originally the kids would come and play basketball. Over the years it has expanded and now they have an inflatable, giant slide, a bounce house, sidewalk chalk, food and even Aubie will be there.

Phi Kappa Tau hosts the event and works together with two sororities each year. This year they will be working with Sigma Kappa and Zeta Tau Alpha sororities.

Before Project Uplift became their local philanthropy, many of the brothers already volunteered with Project Uplift. Soon the fraternity started hosting events and eventually it was suggested that they take Project on as their local philanthropy.

"Spending a little time with Project Uplift, turned into having events for them which turned into them being our local philanthropy," said Ethan Ott, philanthropy chair.

Working with Project Uplift gives the fraternity and the participating sororities an opportunity to expand their service efforts into the community. Any one who wishes to participate is welcome to come, which gives the community a chance to interact and learn more about Project Uplift as well.
