The “2010 Grisham/Trentham Design Symposium” will feature nationally recognized designer Natalie Chanin on March 30, 2010. Chanin’s designs have taken on the name Alabama Chanin, and are respected and admired by many in the fashion community.
While Chanin is in the Auburn area, she will also be attending a trunk show and book signing hosted by The Villager, a local gallery of American craft.
“We are really excited to have an Alabama artist who is known all over the world to come to The Villager,” said Kathy Myles, The Villager gallery manager.
Chanin’s designs are constructed using quilting and stitching techniques from the depression-era south. They are made from organic and recycled materials by artisans located near Natalie’s home in Florence, Ala. Chanin was also a finalist for the “Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Fashion” and was selected as one of 10 fashion companies for the “Council of Fashion Designers in America/Vogue Fashion Fund” in 2005.
Alabama Chanin creates hand-made jewelry, clothing, home furnishing and textiles using a mixture of recycled and organic materials with local talent.
