Coca-Cola Brand Ambassador Program
Laura Peacock The Corner News published November 20, 2008 One of the most important things that college students can do for themselves before graduation is to prepare for the business world. To do that, students are encouraged by professors and parents to fill their resumes with impressive qualities and to gain experience in their field of study. Momentum Worldwide is a marketing firm that has created a student Brand Ambassador Program that works to promote certain Coca-Cola products on college campuses. Students involved in the program, participate in a few events throughout the year. Their involvement with this firm looks great on college resumes and they gain important professional skills. Momentum Worldwide has an account with Coca-Cola, among several other companies, and they have created this ambassador program to market certain products, such as Coke Zero, to college aged students. The program is paid by the hour, and students participate in marketing events on Auburn’s campus. The program was created to help students by giving them hands-on public relations and marketing experience. It also helps Momentum and Coke to market their products among the students and their friends. There are 26 College Ambassadors that work with 120 colleges across the nation. These College Ambassadors work with the Brand Ambassadors to market the products to students utilizing their campus. “This program is a great opportunity for college students,” said Lee Dyar, Auburn University’s College Ambassador for Momentum, “The events are easy and fun, and you gain important PR and marketing skills that can help you in the future.” Dyar began working with Momentum earlier this year after her graduation from Auburn in finance. Along with Auburn, she is also the College Ambassador for The University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University. Dyar recruits Brand Ambassadors across these campuses, trains them about the job, and assists them during the events. The ambassadors have several important roles at the marketing events. They set up and take down all equipment and pass out samples with flyers to passing students. Their goal is to promote the particular product to other students and they wear a T-shirt with the Coca-Cola Campus logo. “I had fun working at an event earlier in October,” said senior in Business Administration Michael Grace, “I learned new things about marketing strategy and I am eager to work with Momentum at Auburn again in December.” The event that Grace participated in October involved promoting Coke Zero. He worked with 4 other Auburn Students, passing out the drink and other Coca Cola flyers. In December, Grace will pass out an energy drink at Auburn’s library during exam week when the library traffic is heightened. Grace will be graduating from Auburn in August 2009 and plans to add this involvement to his resume. Grace is appreciative of the opportunity and would encourage other business majors to consider participation as well.
