Pizza – it’s one of the most frequently consumed foods of college students. That’s probably why there are so many pizza restaurants in Auburn. With there being so many, it could be an expensive ordeal for someone venture throughout the city and try every one of them.
Now, there is a solution to that problem. The Exchange of Auburn is hosting a best tasting pizza contest, which will include nine restaurants from around town. Restaurants that will be providing pizza are Mellow Mushroom, Johnny Brusco’s, Little Italy, Pizza Hut, Brick Oven Pizza, Hungry Howie’s, Little Caesar’s, Shakey’s and Papa Bellow’s.
“We decided to hold an event, something unique, that no one has really done before,” said Mike Hnytka, property manager of The Exchange.
The event will serve as an opportunity for restaurants to promote their pizzas. Instead of traditional advertisment, they will meet face-to-face with their competitors and the pizza testers will decide whose is best.
“We ask them to donate whatever pizza best suits them,” said Hnytka. “If they’re known for a specialty, then that would be the best.”
Pizza tasters will vote on the pizza they think is best. The winner will be awarded the title “Best Pizza in Auburn.” T-shirts will also be handed out to those in attendance.
“We will have drinks, it’s free and open to everybody,” said Hnytka.
The event takes place Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at The Exchange’s clubhouse.
