Wondering how to get your sports fix now that the Winter Olympics are winding down? Join the Auburn track and field teams as they participate in the “SEC Indoor Championships” Feb. 26 through Feb. 28 in Fayetteville, Ark.

The indoor track and field championships offer a variety of events to entertain sports fans. The competition includes the men’s and women’s 60 meter hurdles, 3,000 meter race, heptathlon, pole vault and long jump, just to name a few.

Heading into the competition, Auburn’s women are ranked eighth and the men are ranked fourteenth in the country by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Led by head coach, Ralph Spry, both the women, who placed sixth and the men, who placed fourth in last year’s contest, look forward to improving their finish from the 2009 event.

Fresh off a successful venture at the “Tyson Invitational” in Arkansas last weekend, the Auburn teams seemed poised to improve on last year’s showing.

Coach Spry explained that the “Tyson Invitational” was an important meet.

"This was a very big meet with a lot of the top schools, and it gave us a good measuring stick of where we are heading into the SEC and national championships,” Spry said. “We had a lot of national qualifiers and beat a lot of people head to head, which was the biggest thing.”

The Tigers recorded NCAA provisional qualifying marks from 12 individuals and a relay team during the two-day meet. This includes two first-time qualifiers.

One participant, sophomore sprinter, Harry Adams from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is looking forward to showing his skills during the competition. A runner since the age of 6 and currently ranked number 10 nationally in the 60 meter dash, he has set high expectations for himself.

“I want to make it to nationals and become an All-American for my first year,” Adams said. “I go to practice every day and work hard.”

Adams has certainly done his part to lead the Tigers to a national ranking. He is not only setting the bar high for himself, but for the team heading into the “SEC Indoor Championships.”

“We plan to go in there to win, like any other team, but the best team will win,” Adams said. “We come in with our mind prepared and ready to run and we’ll come out victorious.”

If you would like to watch and support the Auburn Tigers, the meet will be broadcast by ESPNU on a tape-delayed basis. It will be shown on Thursday, March 11, at 8 p.m. C.T.
