The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art has re-introduced “A Little Lunch Music” every Thursday at 12 p.m.
“A Little Lunch Music” is a free event that has become popular at the Jule Collins Smith Museum. It features the museum’s fine art exhibitions accompanied by an informal classical music performance by The Woodfield Trio. A gourmet lunch is offered at The Museum Café for $10 or less.
The Woodfield Trio was formed in 2010 and is now the regular chamber group for the museum. The trio includes Patrick McCurry on woodwinds, Charles Wright on cello and Barbara Acker-Mills on piano. Some of their regularly performed pieces include works by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven among others.
Other featured musical guests can be seen throughout the series including concert pianist Dr. Jeremy Samolesky, who is an assistant professor of piano at Auburn University, and recorder player Dr. Mary Olson. Olson is an associate professor of English at Tuskeegee University and has studied recorder with the late George Olson of the American Conservatory of Music.
“It’s a great time to bring a date to the café and eat lunch and enjoy music,” said JCSM Marketing and Events Director Colleen Bourdeau. “The café menu is always inventive and it’s always delicious.”
The Museum Café has a gourmet menu that changes weekly, but always includes fresh soups, salads and sandwiches. Fine art exhibitions at the museum are also always being updated. Currently, visitors can view “Stranger in Paradise: The Works of Reverend Howard Finster” and “Birds of the Gulf Coast: Selections from the Louise Hauss and David Brent Miller Audubon Collection.”
Auburn University students can become members of the Jule Collins Smith Museum free of charge and will receive monthly updates about museum exhibitions, programs and events. Those who are not students, but still wish to join can do so for $45 and will receive a membership card with free admission to the museum for one year.
