Turn around and walk away

So it seems that Chris Brown truly did beat the well... we all saw the pics and read the police report, so you can fill in the blank. Now it looks like Chris Breezy has copped a plea deal that got him five years probation and a mandatory domestic violence course. He also must perform 180 days of community service. Not sure what that entails, but it should include him dressing in an orange jumpsuit and picking up trash along the side of the interstate.
Now I know it seems like I'm making light of a serious situation, but come on man, I'm just saying... Five years probation and community service and oh yeah he has been ordered to stay away from Rihanna. What? How are you going to order someone to stay away from someone else? What if she wants to go around him? What if after his community service and consoling she decides he's a changed man and wants to get back with him? That's neither her nor there though... It is what it is and boy I say probation and counseling pretty is much a sweet heart of a deal.
Now seeing as how there won't be a trial, we really won't know what went on in that car that night, but apparently it was bad.
But now he's paying for his mistakes and I wish him well. He made a huge mistake, one that he'll never really live down. He's going to be the butt of the joke for many years to come. What I do hope though is that in some way this will help some young lady or some misguided guy that is in the same type of situation. Because we all know it goes on everyday in every city in the world, but we just don't talk about it. Oddly enough it took someone with Chris Brown's image as the All-American guy to start the conversation.
Here's the way it was explained to me when I started "dating" (I used that loosely) and was arguing on the phone with my girlfriend.
Older Brother: Who are you talking too?
Me: Girls Name... won't put her on blast in this post. (Just know I was barely a teenager.)
Older Brother: Why are you yelling at her?
Me: Cause she pissed me off.
Older Brother: Are you her Dad?
Me: No. (Wonder WTF?)
Older Brother: Are you raising her?
Me: (Again wondering WTF?) No.
Older Brother: So if you're not her Dad and aren't raising her, do you think arguing/yelling at her is gonna change something?
Me: (LIGHT BULB MOMENT!) Nah...
Older Brother: So...why you arguing?
Now that may seem like a rather simplistic conversation to have and I know what some of you all are thinking... You we're just arguing. But think about it. If you don't argue, then there's no chance of it escalating into a fight.
Now I know what a lot of you are saying... Man it's hard not to argue, they just get on my nerves sometimes and I lose it. Well losing it got Chris Brown 5 years probation, 180 days community service and mandatory counseling. You're not Chris Brown and chances are you don't have his money or the ability to hire a high-powered attorney like his. So losing it can get you 2-5 in the state pen.
Trust me, it's easier to walk away before you even start the argument or "heated discussion" or what ever you want to call it, than it is to walk away after both parties have pushed one another’s buttons to the point that someone hits the other.
