The 2010 Consumer Electronics Show took place in Vegas last week and revealed thousands of new gadgets. Here are our picks of the coolest gadgets to look for this year.
ELECTRONIC READERS
The eDGe

EnTourage Systems’ new e-reader combines Web browsing and book reading. It has two screens: a 10.1-inch color touch-screen on the right and a 9.7-inch black-and-white display on the left. The eDGe, will run Google Inc.’s Android operating software, so you can use the color screen to browse the Web and watch videos.

The Interead Cooler

Company founder Neil Jones says this device is the first of its kind to be designed specifically for the non-technologically inclined reader in mind. This 6.3 ounce device has a 6-inch screen and looks almost like an iPod nano.

COMPUTERS
Dell Alienware laptop

This 11-inch designed for gaming is the smallest gaming laptop ever made. The laptop is capable of playing games and videos in high definition and allows the user to choose from a “battery mode” and a “gaming mode.”
Price: Around $1,000
Skylight

This “smartbook,” meant to combine the constant Internet connectivity and long battery life of a smart phone with the classic shape and keyboard of a laptop, has a 10-inch screen, full-size keyboard and 10 hours of battery life and weighs less than two pounds. It also features a 10 inch HD screen and Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity options, powered by a sleek Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

3D
TVs and Video Games

3D video games and TVs will make appearances this year. Companies like Mitsubishi and Sony are releasing 3D TVs that turn any movie into 3D. LG and Sharp are working on 3D TVs that will require no glasses, but will require a viewing distance of about 13 feet.
Price: A 50-inch 3D TV should sell for around $2,000.
Video boxes
Boxee Box

Set to handle HD video streaming from the Internet to your TV. Powered by a platform called Tegra 2 and compatible with Mac OS X, Windows XP and Ubuntu platforms, users control Boxee Box using either remote control or wireless keyboard.

Roku

A Netflix Player that instantly streams high quality movies from Netflix and Amazon Video On Demand from the Internet directly to your TV.

CELL PHONE ACCESSORIES
Tivit

This small device receives a TV signal, then rebroadcasts it over Wi-Fi so it can be received by an iPhone or BlackBerry.
Price: $120
Zomm

This gadget alerts you if you are about to walk off and leave your phone somewhere. As long as you have the receiver, once you are out of range the Zoom will alert you with flashing lights. If you get further away, the Zomm will alarm with sounds. Zomm can also work as a Bluetooth speaker and you can answer calls using it. Zomm also comes with a panic button that calls for help if you cannot use your phone.

MP3 PLAYERS
Samsung IceTouch MP3 player

The Samsung H1 has a completely transparent display casing showing the touch screen from the front and the back. It will be navigable from the back and front.

Samsung MyFit MP3 player

The Samsung MyFit has built-in sensors along the top edge that measure body fat and stress. It also includes other health tools, such as a pedometer, a calorie counter and a meal tracker.

UPDATED GADGETS
MagicJack

An updated version of this Internet phone gadget allows free calls from cell phones in the home. The new MagicJack uses radio frequencies for which cellular carriers have paid billions of dollars for exclusive licenses. The device is legal because wireless spectrum licenses don’t extend into the home. The MagicJack will also provide free calls to the U.S. and Canada for one year.

M-Edge Guardian

Designed for Kindle users at the pool, in the spa or in the tub, the M-Edge Guardian is the world’s first waterproof, floating case for Amazon Kindle. Available in Spring 2010.

Kodak Pulse Digital Frame

Instead of having to upload photos to a memory card, the Kodak Pulse has a dedicated e-mail address that users send a picture to from a PC or phone and the photo pops up on the screen within minutes.

Mint

Evolution Robotics will present Mint, the next generation in robot cleaners. Mint uses wet and dry Swiffer pads, which makes it, light, quiet and good at handling corners. Mint also utilizes an indoor navigation, a technology called NorthStar that aims an infrared spotlight on the ceiling, giving it a reference point as it maps and cleans the room.

Sanyo’s Eneloop

Electric Bicycle
The Eneloop is a synergetic hybrid bicycle that has a 26-inch, three-speed regenerative, pedal-assist hybrid electric bicycle with three assist modes - standard, power-up or auto - where the front hub-based motor helps the bicycle and rider travel forward.
